Can you swim on a soccer field?

Mind vs. Consciousness

Well, only in the unlikely event of a previous flooding 🙂

Usually, we chose water to swim and grass to play soccer.

In the last two decades, however, we have been quite stubbornly continuing to play soccer in water. No wonder most of us are quite exhausted.

Why? We take it for granted that the rules of life won’t change, a basic assumption for many of us.

The basic rules have been more or less the same in the last centuries. Like soccer.

  • There are two opposing teams. (Separating)
  • There are clear lines on the lawn for orientation. (Navigating)
  • There are rules of what is foul play and what is fair play. (Norming)
  • There is a clear division of roles and tasks, who is supposed to do what and when (Sequential)
  • The game usually takes 90 minutes (Linear)

What has happened since the beginning of this millennium: We continued to play soccer without noticing that we were swimming in increasingly rough sea or in a river with lots of rapids. We call it a VUCADD world (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous, diverse, dynamic) or BANI world (brittle, anxious, non-linear, incomprehensible), but we still haven’t changed the rules we play by. Whilst some are still discussing how to re-create soccer fields, others are switching gears and open-up for the new game.

  • Ok, let’s swim in rough water – a new experience, let’s check it out and see what’s in for me (acceptance)
  • We discover this deep feeling, this hunch, that makes us look just in the right moment at a floating trunk and grab it (integrating)
  • We discover inside ourselves how exciting it is to be taken away by the rapids, and are awed at our ability to float. We are even starting to cherish the new experiences we make (fulfilling)
  • We adapt to the river or the ocean, becoming part of its rhythm (synchronous & singular)
  • We go with the flow, diving deep into the water, jumping out of the water, swimming in the water – everything seems to be possible at once (expansive)

True, we are not used to that constant swimming. What an exhaustion. Can we leave the ocean or the river, just for a nice soccer game every now and then? We surely can. We just need to be aware that we switch rules. The soccer game rules represent our thinking and the mind. Swimming in the wild river or ocean stands for integrating consciousness. Have a look and train the quantum leap to embrace the new way of life. 🙂
