A Miracle at New Year

cake3

Do you believe in miracles? I do since beginning of this year.

As usual, we visited my parents-in-law on January 1st. We always bring them beautiful flowers with a piglet or chimneysweep figure (as a sign of luck) and get invited for a cup of coffee or tea – that’s it. A table covered with festive food? Not at my parents-in-law. It took me a long time to get used to it. I was annoyed about it. As a Russian, I simply could not understand why the family of my German husband does not celebrate the start of the New Year.

A couple of months ago, I finally managed to accept different customs. Conscious Me whispered to me:” It is as it is and there’s no reason for you to get upset about it.”

New Year’s Day came, and we went to my in-laws. My son was hungry and I promised him to return home as soon as possible. And then, it happened: Much to my surprise I discovered two beautiful cakes in the living room, with the table nicely set. For the first time in seven years we were served something to eat. Incredible!

My son was delighted, my mother-in-law proud of her cake, and I started to believe in miracles again.
