What’s the point of self-exploration?

Viewing yourself as the Formies facilitates the exploration process of your mental, physical and emotional part. It stimulates your intellectual, emotional, systemic and social intelligence alike leveraging you to the next level. With every challenge and every insight you understand yourself better, hence progress on your journey towards more self-awareness.

But what does this mean?

On this level, you are more self-aware and have developed a combination of the following qualities, also referred to as the Corafa-qualities:

Courage… you’ve increased your self-confidence

Openness… you’ve fostered self-reflectiveness and empathy with others

Resilience – you’ve aligned self-perception with the perception of others

Appreciation – you’ve enhanced effective communication

Focus – you’ve increased your internal attentiveness

Action-oriented – you’ve strengthened your decision-making

Use the challenges and the toolkit to train your Formies further and develop those qualities for more balance, freedom and joy in your (work) life.

New Vision for Mr Mind

In modern societies Mr Mind has to navigate a complex reality at highspeed. To deal with the myriad of thoughts effectively, he learned to cluster them into sets of beliefs or mental models.

Mr Mind simply adopts them without questioning, usually at an early age: This is how things work here.

These beliefs tell us how our world works and are shaped by the view of our family, friends, community and the culture we live in. Over time we begin expecting all sorts of behaviors and outcomes and preconceive ideas of how things ‘should‘ be done. After all they have always worked this way. You can imagine this like a pair of glasses through which we perceive our lives.

Different cultures bear different glasses (mental models, expectations, pre-judgments).

Conscious Me can prompt Mr Mind to put on the ‘Beginner‘ glasses. This helps him to see which glasses he is currently wearing and change his glasses deliberately to see the same environment differently:

Pick any activity and try to do it as if it was brand new. Notice every detail of the activity. Every step. Use all your senses to explore every detail of it. How does your expectation differ from your observation?

You will notice that ‘Beginner‘ glasses will transform any activity and you will start to approach things with curiosity, fresh eyes, and wonder.

Honoring Her Highness Heart 

Her Highness Heart continuously communicates to us through Buddy Body.

What we feel emotionally is always felt as bodily sensations first.

In the western societies, however, we often don’t understand what she is is trying to say.

She usually starts off with soft whispers and when neglected for too long, she tends to increase the volume. The result: unpleasant feelings.

These are the ones we usually don’t want. We try to move away and distract ourselves.

Leaving Her Highness Heart feeling even more unheard and abandoned.

Emotions matter – Our feeling of being capable in the world and our emotional strength is directly tied to our capacity to move through and experience those unpleasant feelings. As part of our emotional intelligence this can be developed:

1. Make the choice to stay present and not avoid your feelings anymore. Become curious and explore them.

2. Move through them. Start to embrace and experience the feelings deliberately.

3. Surf the waves. Feelings are temporary (the bio-chemical rush lasts for 60-90 seconds).

When you establish a relationship with your Her Highness Heart and support her in her development, she will reward you with growing confidence, emotional strength and resilience.

Over time she will open up the path to more and more pleasant feelings and you becoming more fully you!

Discover Buddy Body’s superpowers 

When Mr Mind comes up with his favorite activity of criticizing and Her Highness Heart is upset about something, Buddy Body is, very often, stuck right in the middle. He is the one who suffers the most and expresses signals of stress, tension or even pain.

Luckily, Conscious Me points out that Buddy Body is a great ally in turning the wheel around.

He can help Mr Mind redirect his focus and Her Highness Heart enjoy the present moment.

Just utilize his often forgotten superpowers, namely his senses:

Describe 5 things you can see right where you are.

Name 4 things you can feel.

Name 3 things you can hear right now.

Name 2 things you can smell right now or love.

Name 1 thing you can taste.

Repeat as many times as necessary.

Buddy Body can be very powerful in bringing you back into a pleasant state of being – if you let him.
